I was inspired by this video of a man being hit twice by thunder.

Sheryl was walking down the street towards her car when something hit her hard and she fell on the ground, unable to breath for a terrifying moment. She stared at the stars, her mind numb as she tried to comprehend what happened. She didn’t know what touched her, but it took her a moment to collect herself and get up. She took deep breaths, continuying her way on the pavement, but she realized she didn’t know where she was anymore. It wasn’t the street she parked her car, she didn’t even recognize the buildings surrounding her. Distraught, she looked for her phone, but realized it wasn’t in her pocket, in fact she wasn’t even wearing the same clothes anymore. She’d never seen them in her life before. She was now panicking, tightening her hold on the keys in her grip. She saw her reflection in the window of a car and screamed.

It wasn’t her face reflected on the window, it was a stranger’s, a woman she’d never seen before. What was happening? Sheryl heaved, on the verge of a panic attack. The keys in her hand were for another car, not hers. Was she in someone else’s body, caused by whatever hit her?

The sky cracked open once more, and lightning shot down in a blinding light, right on her. She fell again, dizzy, and fell unconscious for a second. She thought her heart was going to stop. When she came back to herself, she looked around and was reassured to know she was in her own body, beside her car.

Had Sheryl swapped body with someone else? Had she really been in another person’s body, just for a minute? As she unlocked her car and sat inside, the experience felt unreal, yet she could smell the odor of burnt hair.
