Note is at the end, for spoilers reasons.

Georg wasn’t working in the physics department, even if he was in the labs more often than he should. He was working in the offices a few floors below, but his boyfriend was a scientist who didn’t mind letting him in for their lunch or any excuse, really. They might have ended up making out a few times, hidden behind a tall desk, but Jose was most enthusiastic to talk to him about his latest creations.

Lately he’d been talking about a new project, something involving lasers and mirrors and other complicated techniques Georg didn’t bother to try to understand. In the end, once they’d eaten their lunch and were left with a bit of time, Jose pulled out what he was so excited about.

It resembled a bowl, but it was angular instead of round. Jose placed it on the table between them, then surrounded the glass object will metallic devices. Georg had no clue what was going on while his boyfriend typed on the computer, and lights appeared from the devices.

“What is that supposed to do?” He asked, not seeing the point.

“Patience, love.” Jose’s brows were furrowed in concentration, but he still glanced at Georg with a smirk. “We’ve only done this a few times, I want to make sure everything is alright.”

“Okay…” It was cute when Jose was like this, the passion he had for his work visible in his eagerness and willingness to show Georg his discoveries.

“Here.” The red lights began to move very fast in the glass’ direction, working to create something. Georg leaned over to peak at what it was.

“What the hell…?” He murmured, before chuckling. “A pipe?”

“An hologram of your dad’s old pipe, yes. We wanted something made of a natural material, and I’ve thought of this for some reason. Now, what is incredible is…”

He grabbed the pipe and took it in his hand like it was a real object.

“Not only you can touch it, you can interact with it.” Jose was grinning, gently twirling the pipe between his fingers. Its wood was brighter than the original, but it’s still was amazing for something that was an illusion.

A short story in which I create rubbish science. I quickly searched how holograms were made, but everything is pretty much taken from my brain. Sorry if you’re working in the field.
